Sports Data & Reporting Methodology

How NJ Sports Insider sources, attributes, verifies, updates, and corrects New Jersey sports data, schedules, rosters, statistics, and reporting.

Last reviewed

This page explains how NJ Sports Insider gathers, checks, attributes, and updates the sports information published on this site. It is intended for readers, athletes, families, coaches, journalists, and researchers who want to understand what a listing or statistic represents.

Source standards

We start with the source closest to the event or record. Preferred primary sources include official school, team, league, tournament, athletic association, and venue publications; official schedules and scorebooks; direct statements or interviews; and media supplied by the athlete, family, coach, or authorized representative. A page may also cite an official social account when that account is the original publisher of the information.

Independent news reports and reputable statistical services may be used to confirm or add context, but they do not replace an available primary source. Each sourced game or team record should name the source and show when an editor last verified it. A source link documents where the fact came from; it is not an endorsement of every statement on the linked site.

Statistics and attribution

Statistics are attributed to the organization or record that published them whenever that information is available. We preserve the publisher’s labels and time period rather than combining unlike figures. For example, season totals, tournament-only totals, varsity records, and youth-league records should not be presented as though they cover the same competition.

When two sources disagree, we prefer the official record closest to the competition and may identify the discrepancy instead of choosing a number without explanation. Tables and profiles may be corrected when an official source revises its record. Video and photographs remain credited to their stated owner or source; appearance on a profile does not transfer reuse rights.

Update cadence and verification dates

News stories are updated when material facts change. Game schedules are checked against their named public sources, especially as an event approaches, but postponements, venue changes, and cancellations can occur after our last review. Team and player pages are reviewed as new sourced information is added. The visible publication, modification, or “last verified” date tells readers when that page was last checked; it is not a promise that the underlying organization has made no later change.

NJ Sports Insider does not claim that its schedules, rosters, or player database include every New Jersey event or athlete. Missing information means our research is incomplete, not that a team, game, or player does not exist.

Roster and injury uncertainty

Rosters are snapshots. Players can join, leave, change numbers, move between levels, or be omitted from a public list. A team page marked “roster research pending” confirms the program and its source, not a complete active roster. Readers should use the team or league’s official information for eligibility and game-day participation decisions.

We report injury or availability information only when it is publicly confirmed by an appropriate primary source, such as the team, league, coach, athlete, or authorized representative. We do not diagnose injuries, speculate about a minor’s health, or treat an unverified social post as medical fact. “Expected,” “questionable,” and similar terms retain the meaning given by the cited source and may change quickly.

Corrections and clarifications

Accuracy corrections are welcome. Use the Submit a Highlight form and begin the context field with Correction. Include the page URL, the exact statement you believe is wrong, the corrected information, and a primary-source link when possible. Do not submit private medical records, school records, home addresses, passwords, or other sensitive personal information.

Editors review the supplied evidence before changing a published page. Material corrections should be reflected in the page’s modified date and, when the context requires it, an explanatory correction or clarification note. Spelling, formatting, and other changes that do not alter meaning may be corrected without a separate note.

How readers and researchers may cite NJ Sports Insider

Link to the specific article, profile, team page, or schedule rather than only the homepage. A useful citation includes the named author when one is shown—or “NJ Sports Insider” when the organization is the byline—the page title, publication or last-modified date, URL, and your access date.

NJ Sports Insider. “Page title.” Published or last updated Month Day, Year. URL. Accessed Month Day, Year.

If our page attributes a statistic or schedule to another organization, researchers should also consult and cite that original source. Brief quotation with clear attribution and a link is encouraged; copying full articles, original graphics, photographs, or video requires permission from the applicable rights holder.
